I Heart Seattle

We had an amazing trip to Seattle which is great because flying out there takes about 2 or 3 days!  :-)  Their stadium is great and it was our first time there when it didn’t rain on us at all so life was good.  Mostly, it’s just a great city to walk around and go to the Pike Place Fish Market.

The funny moment came on Monday morning when I was just walking around before heading back to get to the airport.  On my way back to the hotel, I bumped into Ken Lambert who used to work for The Washington Times and now is at the Seattle Times.  It was a nice coincidence.  I actually was hired full-time at the Times when Ken left.

Peter’s friend, Dan, came up from LA to hang out and help us with the game.  Nothing spells sexy like knee pads!  :-)

More Than a Dynasty

I spent the last two weeks heading back and forth to Frederick, Md. to photograph the Maryland School for the Deaf high school football team.  I have to say it was an amazing experience.

The Coach has two sons who play on the team and all the team does is win!  MSD just won its sixth consecutive deaf school national championship, completing a 10-1 season.  Its only loss ended a 35-game winning streak.  I photographed their last two games which were blow-outs.

Coach Andy Boneyho gave me complete access to his team for the 2 weeks.  After photographing the Redskins for 7 or 8 years, it was so much fun to get access to a football team.

I have photographed in a lot of foreign countries where I don’t understand any of the language.  While it’s difficult, you can get a hand on the tone of the conversation.  Working with an entire team of players and coaches who were deaf posed its challenges for me but was really just amazing to watch and soak in.  I am used to coaches screaming at players, players horsing around, loud music in the locker room…  My first day at their practice was so striking in the silence.  Outside of pads hitting and an occasional yell, it was silent.  You could hear the wind through the trees.  It was so cool.

I have to say thank you to Coach Andy and his sons Ryan (#4) and Todd (#7) along with the rest of the team who put up with a strange photographer shooting roughly 6,000 images over the two weeks with them.  They were a lot of fun to work with.

Emily + Nathan

Emily and Nathan got married in the Old Post Chapel at Ft. Myer Saturday.  There was a small threat of rain early but the day became a beautiful Fall day.

Around 5 years ago, I photographed Emily’s Dad and Step-Mom’s wedding and was so happy to get the call to photograph Emily’s wedding.  Being from the Midwest, I couldn’t help but like Nathan and his family who are from Iowa.  Emily’s parents, Nathan and the Groomsmen all served in the military so we wanted to say a special thank you to all of them that are currently or who have served.

Katie Falkenberg helped me to photograph the wedding and did an amazing job as always.

While photographing at the Iwo Jima Memorial, I got some competition from the wedding paparazzi!Seriously, aren’t the Ring Bearer and the Flower Girl the cutest?!

Pretty swank arriving in a 1952 Bentley:
