1st Christmas

It was Grace’s 1st Christmas and we had a blast with her!  Too bad she won’t remember any of it!

Nicole got this hilarious photo of Grace and me.  I just love the “OHMYGODIAMSOEXCITEDICOULDJUSTCRAPMYSELF” expression on her face.  :-)

Grace still won’t eat food but couldn’t get enough of eating bows and wrapping paper:

Nicole is starting to become a pretty good photographer.  She got this quiet moment with the glow of the White House Christmas Tree on Grace’s face:

We hope you all had a wonderful (and safe) holiday season!  If you want to see way too many photos of Grace’s first Christmas, you can click here.

Grace’s First Flight

We just got back from my twin-brother’s wedding in Portland.  It was pretty amazing.  He got married on top of Mt. Hood.  We stayed in a cabin at Government Camp.  The day we got there, it was beautiful and not a single lift was open due to no snow.

That changed quickly.  The next day it started snowing and didn’t stop.  It was beautiful!  We had to go up to Timberline Lodge and then take Snow Cats up to Silcox Hut a couple thousand feet up the mountain from there.  It was an adventure!

The wedding was beautiful and we had a great time.  Grace never really got off of East Coast time so she kept going to bed around 5pm but would get up around 3:30-4:30am.  :-(

She did really well on her first flights.  On a stop-over in Chicago, I was taking photos of her when the pilot invited us up into the cockpit to take some photos.  I didn’t know they even did that any more.  Needless to say, it was pretty memorable for Grace’s first flight:

Army / Navy Game

Sorry for getting this up so late. We shot the Army/Navy Game last weekend up in Philly. It made for a LONG day but it is one of the “funnest” games to shoot. The game itself usually stinks but the atmosphere is awesome!

The President was there for his last Army Navy Game and made for a great shot! This is when he was coming out for the coin toss. He saw a ball set up for the kickers and just decided to go up and kick it. I guess you have to be in your last 100 days of your Presidency to risk the humiliation. He actually kicked it pretty well but looked really funny doing it:

More from the game:

And one final photo that you might not have seen in the paper (hmmm, wonder why!?):

Redskins 7 – Giants 23

The Redskins continue to look less than stellar. The only good news that came out of Sunday’s game was that none of the Redskins shot themselves in the leg or covered up a felony gun crime. Other than that, there wasn’t much good news.

The irony was that they were inducting Sean Taylor into their ring of fame a year after he was shot to death in his home. You had to feel a bit odd watching that ceremony from the Giants sideline the day after one of your star players shoots himself in the leg.

It was our worst weather by far this year.  It was in the 30′s and just rained and rained and rained.  Honestly, it wasn’t as bad as it looked on TV.  We did a game about 4 years ago in Denver where it stayed at 32.5 degrees and just RAINED.  The only way to come close to describing that game would be to spend 4 hours with your camera equipment in your shower.  That is not even close to an exaggeration!  For any of you photographers reading this, we recommend KATA rain covers.  You don’t see them a whole lot for some reason but after using most of them on the market nothing beats them on both usability and price.  They are more user friendly and less than half the cost of an AquaTech cover for the 400mm.

Sean Taylor’s dad Pedro spoke as the rain came down about his son:

Joe Gibbs came back for the ceremony:

Clinton Portis ran the 21 flag onto the field in honor of Sean:

Amani Toomer getting 15 yards before getting pulled down by Chris Horton:

O-Line:

DeAngelo Hall’s interception and celebration:

Brandon Jacobs walking over the D-Line for a touchdown.  This photo was the dominant photo on the cover of the Sports Section the next day:

Coach Zorn finding his “Happy Place”:

Portis has been taking a BEATING lately.  I think the list of body parts that are NOT injured would be way shorter.  He took a while to get up here and then limped to the sidelines before pretty much collapsing: On the final drive, Jason Campbell just got dropped by Justin Tuck:

World AIDS Day

Monday was World AIDS Day so I was sent to photograph protesters outside of the D.C. AIDS Housing Authority to demand that all 278 people on the Housing Waiting List get housing.  The group walked into a courtyard and hurriedly (or semi-hurriedly) erected 3 or 4 tents to make their point (about housing I assume).

On a side note, I remember setting up my tent after a 10 hour hike in the highlands of Scotland as the rain came in in under 3 minutes but I guess my time was a hair more critical!  :-)

I know that the tents were supposed to be the picture but I couldn’t help but just feel a lot more drawn to Jeanette Smith. Everyone else was getting loud and marching but Jeanette just had something about her that spoke more to the reason for the day.
