Dallas “Beats” Redskins in a “Riveting” “Game” | 7-6

Just got back from Dallas. The airports were crazy today!

Ok, let’s get this out of the way — Cowboys Stadium is pretty cool. The screen is more better than you think! :-) As a fan of architecture, I think all the stadiums being built are too much like space ships. I am hoping someone does something like an old Soldier Field soon. After all the years I have photographed at Texas Stadium, I never thought I would say the terms good light, comfortable or great set-up in the same sentence with Dallas.

Redskins Win! ???

Sorry for the late delay in getting last week’s win up.  I got a bunch of emails saying that I was happy to show a loss but not a win.  Trust me — no bias here.  We bought a house and moved in last week so everything is in boxes.

I actually just got to the new Texas Stadium (WOW!!!) and finally got a second to update.

The Dalai Lama

I forgot to post this from a few weeks ago during a visit from the Dalai Lama.  He is great to photograph (besides the circus involved with his security).

This was during his visit to the U.S. Capitol.  They were showing a small movie clip so the auditorium went almost completely dark like a movie theater and the only light was the light bouncing off the screen back at him.  I was hoping to get something like this but man it was dark!

For anyone with knowledge of photography, this is shot with a Nikon D3 | 200mm lens | ISO 6400 | f2.8 | 1/50th of a second and still bumped up almost a stop on the RAW file.  For those of you who have no idea what that means, it really boils down to holding extremely still and praying.

Redskins vs. Falcons – Another “L”

Just got back today from Atlanta where I was photographing the Washington Redskins getting a beat-down from the Atlanta Falcons. I haven’t spent a lot of time in Atlanta but I like what I have seen.

Redskins games are starting to feel like Groundhog Day. It’s just the same old thing over and over again. I have never felt so sorry for Jason Campbell. Regardless of what you think of him as a quarterback, it would be nice for the Offensive Line to stop the guys in the other uniforms once in a while. If I was Jason, none of them would be getting a Hanukkah card this year!

This was the dominate photograph on the cover of our Sports Section today. I see him get knocked down all the time but I never saw him like he was in this game. When Mike Williams (71) came over to help him up, it was like lifting a sack of potatoes. Campbell was just NOT getting up.

REDSKINS_FALCONS_5445From there, it just seemed to go even farther down hill for Campbell as the O-Line didn’t get the memo about blocking for him.

REDSKINS_FALCONS_5438REDSKINS_FALCONS_5816REDSKINS_FALCONS_5825It was definitely a Michael Turner day.  The guy was a stud.  When we came back into the editing room to transmit after the game, our other photographer (Peter) asked me if I had the long Turner run and all I could say is “which one?”.

REDSKINS_FALCONS_5322REDSKINS_FALCONS_5793I know that all my die-hard friends think my job is wasted on me because I am not a huge Skins fan.  Not growing up around here, I don’t have the same love.  I am, however, getting sick of covering a loosing team.  Hopefully they turn it around this week.  Oh wait…  The Broncos.  Poor Skins!
