There is no way to sugar-coat it. Kimberly and Mikkel’s wedding was HOT (over 100 degrees)!! That would ruin the day for a lot of brides and grooms who had planned a garden wedding but I don’t think I ever heard either of them complain.
We started the day in the city at the Hotel Palomar where the two got ready. After getting into her dress, Kimberly shared the sweetest moment with her mom and her sister. I actually teared up photographing it. The sincerity and love in that moment was amazing. We don’t always see moms and daughters getting along on the wedding day as they deal with the stress — that was definitely NOT the case here!
Mikkel is from Denmark so his family and friends all traveled over for the wedding. It was great to see the blending of Danish wedding traditions and Kimberly’s Jewish/American traditions. A Scandinavian wedding tradition that I love is when the bride or groom leave the room, guests get to come up and start kissing the other on the cheek. It’s always makes such nice photographs. One tradition I had never seen before was when guests would clink a glass, the bride and groom would stand on their chairs to kiss. Made for one of my favorite photographs of the night.
Kimberly was a dancer so she had to go all out on their first dance. She did one heck of a job teaching Mikkel because it was awesome! It started out slow and then just got fun!
In the end, after everyone got a little liquid refreshment to cool down, the dance floor rocked and the photo booth was put to good use. I can’t say enough about how great Kelley Cannon (Kelley Cannon Events) was to work with. I also have to give a HUGE thank you to my 2nd shooter Cliff and assistant Andrew who made it possible to not only survive the weather but make great photographs regardless!
