A+G | Indian Wedding Photography | Willard InterContinental + Andrew Mellon Auditorium, Washington, DC

It’s hard to even know where to start with this wedding!!  It was insane (in the best way possible).

First and foremost, A+G rank as one of our favoritest (it’s a word!!) couples EVER!  Both of them were so kind and gracious and I think if you aren’t having fun after five minutes with G, it’s probably you!

Our Indian weddings are always long days and this one was no exception.  However, if you are going to spend a long day working, this is the way you should do it.  We started off with the two of them getting ready at the Willard before their Baraat and Ceremony there.  I’m pretty sure A is absolutely stunning on any random Tuesday so after hours in hair and makeup, she was just over the top beautiful.  G and the rest of his groomsmen were hilarious and just as easy going.  The sequence of photos of them trying to get his pants on were too funny (and one of the photos that is NSFB *Not-Safe-For-Blog* is even funnier!).

In Indian weddings, one of the behind the scenes games is for the kids to steal the groom’s shoes and then ransom them back to him later.  This is the first time I saw that game become a contact sport!!  From the moment he arrived on horseback at the Milni to the end of the ceremony, it was Mortal Combat Shoe Edition.  In fact, during their recessional, they were practically trampled with people trying to finally get his shoes — it was a first for us but made for great photos.

The ceremony was beautiful like all Hindu ceremonies.  If you ever get the chance to go to one, don’t pass it up.  The color and the rituals are beyond anything you’ve seen.

Once the ceremony was over, it was back to change for the reception and then off to the Mellon for the rest of the night.  The Mellon is one of the most impressive spaces in DC but it is a blank slate and absolutely NEEDS lighting and elegance brought into it.  That was no problem this night!

A+G created their seating cards from a 30″ x 40″ print of their engagement session.  The print underneath was a metallic color print mounted on foam core.  On top of that, was the exact same photo but in Black + White with their guests names on them.  As guests removed their B+W cards, the color photo started coming through.  It was a ton of cutting for them but it looked great and was just one more personal touch to their night.

A+G’s vision of their night coupled with the lighting expertise of Jag from EventEQ made the Mellon into a magical space.  We can’t say enough about our love for Jag and EventEQ.  The way he lights the space and works closely with us to make sure it works in photographs is second to none and the photographs prove it.  He is also one hell of a DJ and the dance floors are NEVER empty.

Once the couple was introduced, they started their first dance to something slow and then had a little surprise waiting for everyone.  We have seen that before and it’s always fun but we have never seen anything even close to this.  They surprised their family and guests by having the entire bridal party rush to the floor and do a Bolywood dance routine.  To say it was awesome is a complete understatement!!  Take a look at the video our friends at Pixotheory made of the first dance (it breaks into the Bolywood routine at 2:37).  It ended with the groom break dancing so watch the whole thing.  It was epic!

The rest of the evening was just a huge blur of speeches and dancing all night long.  Two guys turned glow-stick necklaces into a huge jump rope on the dance floor towards the end of the night and even the parents got in on the fun.  I absolutely love the photo of A in her dress with the jump rope!

My wedding was 45 people in the desert but if I was going to do the opposite, this is how I would have done it!

To A+G: You two will always hold a special place in our hearts for your unbelievable kindness!

This day wouldn’t have been possible without an amazing team.  Christine and her ladies at Engaging Affairs made everything run so well.  I can’t say enough about how great it was to work with the team of videographers at Pixotheory – the equipment they bring in including steadicams makes their job incredibly difficult but the result is second to none because they do it the right way!  And to my guys who started shooting at 7am and finished after midnight, you guys are rock stars!
