We have been unbelievably blessed with some of the nicest couples ever this Spring! Once we think it can’t get any better, it just does.
Caitlin is the anti-Bridezilla. Think about the exact opposite and then go another 100 miles past that and you have Caitlin and her family. When I first spoke with Caitlin and her mom when they booked us, she mentioned that she really didn’t like to be photographed or the center of attention. (I think if you look like me, you don’t want to be photographed or the center of attention but if I looked like Caitlin, that would be all I would want!)
The day was absolutely perfect. Everything took place at The Hay Adams so even without all of the perfect weather, the place would have been just gorgeous anyway. I love the photos of Caitlin getting into her dress and her Maid of Honor and bridesmaids reacting to seeing her. After getting ready, Caitlin and Tim had their first look on the top of The Hay Adams with the perfect DC view behind them and then it was off to portraits near the White House.
Caitlin’s aunt officiated the wedding which was so nice because it was so personal. Nicole and I had our dads marry us so it brought back a lot of those memories.
The panorama is actually a 180 degree view of the ceremony at the Top of the Hay made up from 12 images. It is a very narrow space so we wanted to get something showing the guests and the ceremony.
My favorite moment of the day came during the recessional immediately after the ceremony. Caitlin and Tim stepped into a side room to have a moment and we caught them just as the planner was closing the doors to give them privacy. It was just a beautiful moment for the two of them. Immediately after, I saw Caitlin’s mom and dad coming out and said congratulations. I expected a quick thank-you but instead, Caitlin’s mom gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek and thanked me for photographing the wedding. Caitlin’s mom is a very sweet person so she probably thought nothing of it but it is one of the nicest moments I’ve ever had at a wedding and isn’t something I will forget for a long time. (completely unnecessary but unbelievably kind!)
Caitlin and Tim got a surprise during the cocktail hour when they saw a huge topiary version of their dog adorning the guest card table. It was a nice personal touch.
The rest of the night was just a really relaxed party which is what I think they wanted.
Amanda from Engaging Affairs was great to work with and Allison and the staff of The Hay Adams are just about the best around. When you put great planners and great on-site people together with great couples, the day just sails along!
