Snowpocalypse 2010

Today was no joke in the world of weather around here.  DC is famously known for freaking out about a little snow or rain.  Today, it was finally justified.

We received over 30 inches of snow overnight and throughout the day.  After waking up, I decided to head out and try to scoop a bit.  The only problem was that the snow was crushed against our storm door and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get it open.  Luckily, I was able to wiggle out the back door and then wade through snow (sometimes up to my waist) to the front yard.

I scooped our walkway to the trash cans and decided that was enough.  Even if I scooped out the cars, there would be no way I could get any of our cars out in the next couple days.  The court we live on hasn’t been scooped and is probably low on the priority list for everyone.

I ended up grabbing my cross country skis to head out and enjoy the weather.  I was always jealous of people that got to do that when I worked for the paper.  I actually enjoy the snow but I never got to have any fun with it because I was always out in search of other people doing it.  The two things I figured out really quickly:  1. there was too much snow for x-country skis  2. I’m not in as good of shape as I was when I was 18 and skiing every day in Sweden!

When I got back, we bundled up Grace and I took her outside to try out her new sled.  She LOVED it out there.  Just ask Nicole who had to deal with her fury after bringing her in before she wanted to come in!
