Having a couple as sweet as Emily + David is a joy any time of the year. But, when we are in Peak-Fall-Wedding-Madness™, you appreciate couples like this even more!
We started off with our couple at the Hay Adams. Emily was so relaxed and ahead of schedule with her bridesmaids that they even started playing board games (I am certain that is a first in the 17 years I’ve been photographing weddings!). It was not only Emily’s wedding day but also her birthday so she got to celebrate both. Once David and the guys found their bow-tying-fairy-godfather, it was off to their first look and portraits.
Their ceremony and reception was across the street at the Decatur House. During the ceremony, they were talking about missing Emily’s father who had passed and at that second, all you heard was sirens outside. I’m not a superstitious man but you couldn’t help but feel like it was a sign. It was heartwarming.
The reception was relaxed and fun. The last speech surprised David with everyone joining in to reenact the scene for “My Best Friend’s Wedding” even including the lobster claw gloves throughout their guests. It was the perfect moment to kick off the fun for the rest of the night!
