When I grow up and become rich-ish and famous-ish, I am going to require that all of my weddings are to be held on days like this! It’s been a while since I have photographed group portraits outdoors where the poor groom and groomsmen (and myself) aren’t seriously thinking about taking a flying leap into the reflecting pool to cool off. It’s been a long (REALLY LONG) and hot (REALLY HOT) summer.
Not for Genevieve and Ryan. The day was stunning!
Whitney and I started the day with Genevieve at her parents’ home and I did a double-take when I walked into the room and saw her dress. It was big and it was beautiful! Andrew started with Ryan and the guys at their new place. Buying a home and planning a wedding at the same time takes some serious skills! I love the moment Ryan and his brother Taylor shared while getting ready. You don’t always see a ton of emotion on the guys side so we love it when it happens.
Ryan is a Georgetown grad so the ceremony was held at Dahlgren Chapel on the Georgetown University Campus. Dahlgren is so pretty and beautiful to work in. The priest also happened to be Genevieve’s grandmother’s brother (Great Uncle if I did my math right).
After the ceremony, we took off with the Bridal Party to the Lincoln Memorial for portraits. The only down side of having great weather for your wedding is that it can be a nightmare to get around the city with everyone else out enjoying it. I love the moment we were heading back to the bus when all the veterans of WWII who were in town for an Honor Flight applauded her. It was really sweet.
Finally, it was off to the Mellon Auditorium for the reception. The Mellon can be such a beautiful place and with help from Aimee Dominick and Cindy Bastron from A. Dominick Events it really was. I loved the mix of round and banquet seating for dinner.
The send off was a bubble sendoff coming down the main staircase and then Genevieve and Ryan hopped into a pedicab for the ride to the hotel for the after party. Ryan’s brother even talked his way into driving them to the end of the block.
