If rain on your wedding day is lucky, Hurricane Irene on your wedding day means you should go buy some lottery tickets!!
Samantha and Roberto started off the day at her parents’ house with traditional Cambodian hair-cutting (pretend), red string (with a sword) and bed (long story!) ceremonies. It was beautiful to be a part of and so unique. I love anything that’s different and it helps when there is a ton of color as well!
After that, it was off to Trump National Golf Club just as the beginnings of Irene started coming in. Roberto is Brazilian so the officiant gave the ceremony in both English and Portuguese for all of the guest that had traveled. One of my favorite moments was during the Best Man’s speech where he mentioned all the nationalities and languages that were present and thanked everyone for attending the United Nations Conference in Virginia.
I got a text from Samantha a few days out as we were firming up times saying that she definitely wanted to do an outdoor shoot regardless of the rain and that she had bought pink rubber boots just for it. That is Bonus Bridal Points in my book! We were definitely up for it and waited until later in the night to take her and Roberto out onto the golf course. You can read more about the shoot in our previous blog entry. Needless to say, it has become one of my all-time favorite wedding portraits and was worth getting me and the cameras soaked for!
Regardless of Irene, or maybe because Samantha and Roberto just embraced it and rolled with it, the day was absolutely beautiful!
